What to buy
Three tins carry the demand right now: the Ascended Heroes Mega ex Tin that released 28 August, the Ascended Heroes mini tin that is already on the shelf, and the Prismatic Evolutions mini tin, which is still two live shots at the most valuable chase card in this guide.
What is actually inside a tin
- Mini tin (2 packs). Two booster packs, an art card, and either a sticker sheet or a collectible coin depending on the line. This is the format for Ascended Heroes, 30th Celebration, Prismatic Evolutions, 151, Shining Fates and Lumiose City.
- Ascended Heroes Mega ex Tin (4 packs). Four Ascended Heroes packs and one foil promo card featuring Mega Meganium ex, Mega Emboar ex or Mega Feraligatr ex — reprints of the promos that shipped in the January Mega Boxes.
- Mega Forces Tin (4 packs). Four packs and a foil promo of Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Dragonite ex or Mega Zeraora ex.
- Mega Charizard ex Tin (4 packs). Two Phantasmal Flames, one Mega Evolution and one Destined Rivals pack, plus a foil alternate-art Mega Charizard X ex or Y ex promo.
- Lumiose City Mini Tin (2 packs). One Chaos Rising pack and one Perfect Order pack, a sticker sheet, an art card and a code card. Five designs — Salamence, Gallade, Emboar, Feraligatr and Meganium — whose art cards line up into one Lumiose City scene.
- Prismatic Evolutions Mini Tin (2 packs). Eight tins, one per Eeveelution, each with its own coin colour and art card. All eight art cards combine into a single image.

What the market is telling us
Two things set the ceiling on any sealed product: how hard the set’s best card is to pull, and how many people want that character. Tins are the purest way to buy that equation, because you are paying pack price for exposure to it rather than box price.
Prismatic Evolutions is the cleanest example on this page. The set is retired, its Umbreon ex Special Illustration Rare sits near A$1,990 ungraded, and a mini tin at $64.90 is two live shots at it. Scarlet & Violet 151 works the same way: Charizard ex #199 holds around A$515 and the packs are no longer being printed, which is why a 151 mini tin sits at $109 while newer sets sit lower.
Ascended Heroes is where the current demand is. Three cards from the set clear A$900 ungraded — Mega Gengar ex at ~A$1,450, Pikachu ex at ~A$1,370 and Mega Dragonite ex at ~A$920 — and the Mega ex tin puts four packs plus an exclusive foil promo in front of you for $109. Four loose Ascended Heroes packs are $112 on their own, so the tin, the promo card and the case cost $3 less than the packs alone.
And the entry tier is where the value math is loudest. A Lumiose City Mini Tin at $29 holds a Chaos Rising pack and a Perfect Order pack — $21 of packs at our loose price — and adds the tin, the sticker sheet and one of five connecting art cards on top. Both of those sets still have live Mega ex chases in them.
