Pokémon ex Boxes & Premium Collections Australia: Every Tier, Live Prices and What to Buy

Four packs or thirty? Here is what each tier of sealed Pokémon collection box actually holds, what it costs in Australia today, and which one gives you the best run at the chase.

Pokémon TCG Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection sealed box
The top of the ladder: the Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection, 18 packs plus the full accessory kit.

Between a single booster pack and a full booster box sits the most under-rated shelf in the Pokémon TCG: the collection box. ex Boxes, Premium Collections and Ultra-Premium Collections all pair sealed packs with a promo card that is printed nowhere else, and moving one tier up takes the pack count from four to thirty.

This is every tier Grailborne has on the shelf right now, with live Australian prices, the exact contents of each box and the real secondary values of the cards inside them.

Every box on this page is sealed English stock in the Brisbane warehouse, dispatched in 1 to 2 business days, with one clearly flagged exception: the 30th Celebration Ultra-Premium Collection is a pre-order for its 6 November 2026 release.

Secondary-market estimates for raw, ungraded copies, converted from PriceCharting USD sales at 1 USD = 1.4204 AUD (7 August 2026). Card values move with condition, grading and time.

What the market is telling us

Ascended Heroes is the cleanest demonstration of how these boxes are priced by the market. The set runs to 295 cards with 22 Special Illustration Rares, so pull difficulty is close to identical across all 22 — and yet Pikachu ex and Mega Gengar ex clear A$1,500 ungraded while Mega Dragonite ex sits near A$1,000. Same set, same rarity band, same odds. The entire spread is character demand.

That is the whole framework in one set: value = pull difficulty × character popularity. Chaos Rising shows the other half of it. Its top two cards, the Mega Greninja ex Special Illustration Rare and the Mega Hyper Rare that closes the 122-card set, land near A$300 — reachable numbers on a A$99 box that gives you eight cracks at them, which is the friendliest chase-to-cost ratio on this page.

Black Bolt and White Flare add a third lever: rarity that exists in one place only. The Black White Rare treatment, a vertical black-and-white split, was introduced with those two sets and appears nowhere else in the Pokémon TCG. Zekrom ex 172/086 at roughly A$840 and Reshiram ex 173/086 at roughly A$695 are carrying a scarcity premium that later sets cannot dilute, and the Unova Heavy Hitters Premium Collection is the only box on this page that puts twelve packs of both sets in one carton.

Character demand is the multiplier. Gengar and Pikachu are two of the most collected Pokémon in the franchise, and in Ascended Heroes they carry a 50 to 60% premium over a Special Illustration Rare of identical rarity from the same set. When you choose between boxes, you are choosing which character pool your packs draw from.

🏆 The Grailborne Take

79/100
Grailborne Index
The best-value way into sealed Mega-era product
Investment-hold rating — weighs set scarcity, character demand, comparables & retail-vs-secondary spread.
Every tier carries at least one promo printed only in that box. The display piece holds its own lane no matter what the packs give you, which is why these boxes hold value more evenly than loose packs.
Ascended Heroes is the strongest pack pool in stock: 295 cards, 22 Special Illustration Rares, and three of them clear A$1,000 ungraded. The Mega ex Box at A$129 is the cheapest sealed way to draw from it, and Grailborne lets you pick the starter rather than shipping a random box.
A$99 for eight Chaos Rising packs is the deepest pack count under A$100 on the shelf, and the set’s top two cards still sit near A$300 — a genuinely reachable chase rather than a lottery ticket.
Smart-buy: match the tier to how you want to hold it. ex Boxes stack neatly and display beautifully, Premium Collections give you pack depth per dollar, and the Ultra-Premium Collections ship with the playmat, 65 sleeves and deck box you would otherwise buy separately — real accessories you keep long after the packs are open.

Practically: these are single-wave products. Collection boxes are built for one release window and rarely come back at retail once the wave moves on, so the shelf in front of you is the opportunity. Store them upright in a cool, dry spot out of direct sun to keep the shrink tight and the lenticular jumbos flat. Australian allocation arrives per wave rather than as a rolling restock, which is exactly why the boxes listed on this page today are the ones worth acting on — every one ships sealed from Brisbane in 1 to 2 business days.

Grailborne’s mission: as always, Grailborne strives to get modern Pokémon sets into the hands of collectors, investors and rippers — securing inventory in high volumes from the secondary market so there’s always something available for everyone.

Grailborne Index is our own editorial rating, not financial advice. Figures cite indicative sealed-market prices; collectibles can fall as well as rise. Do your own research and buy what you enjoy.

Frequently asked questions

What actually separates an ex Box, a Premium Collection and an Ultra-Premium Collection?
Pack count and accessories, in that order. An ex Box is four packs with one or two playable foil promos and an oversize display card. A Premium Collection doubles that to eight packs (twelve on Unova Heavy Hitters) and adds a lenticular jumbo, with Mega-era boxes also including a reusable tech sticker. An Ultra-Premium Collection runs 18 to 30 packs and adds the full accessory kit: playmat, 65 sleeves, deck box, metal coin and dice. The promo cards are exclusive at every tier — you cannot pull them from a booster pack.
Which box in stock gives the best run at a four-figure card?
The Ascended Heroes Mega ex Box (A$129) draws from the deepest pool: Pikachu ex 276/217 sits near A$1,580 ungraded, Mega Gengar ex 284/217 near A$1,500 and Mega Dragonite ex 290/217 near A$1,000, all out of the same 22 Special Illustration Rares. The Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection (A$429) is the other route — four of its 18 packs are Phantasmal Flames, home to the Mega Charizard X ex 125/094 Special Illustration Rare at roughly A$1,060 to A$1,150.
Are the box-exclusive promos worth keeping sealed?
The playable foil promos are the ones with a long runway. They are printed for a single product in a single window, so supply is fixed the day the wave sells through, and unlike a pack pull there is no second print to dilute them. The oversize and lenticular jumbos are display pieces rather than tournament-legal cards, which is exactly why sealed collectors prize them — they are the part of the box that cannot be replaced by buying the single later.
Open them or hold them sealed?
Both work, for different reasons. If the pack pool is the draw, open — the Greninja Premium Collection at A$99 gives eight cracks at a chase sitting near A$300, which is the friendliest maths on this page. If the box itself is the draw, hold: collection boxes are produced for a single release wave and are rarely reprinted, so a sealed example is a finite thing in a way a single card never is. A common split is to open the mid-tier boxes and keep one Ultra-Premium sealed for display.
When does the 30th Celebration Ultra-Premium Collection land in Australia?
It releases on 6 November 2026 and is open for pre-order at Grailborne now at A$1169. It is the biggest box in the lineup at 30 packs — 29 30th Celebration plus one Classic Collection pack — and ships as a random Day (Espeon ex) or Night (Umbreon ex) version. As a pre-order it carries a 10% cancellation fee if you change your mind before release.
