Loose packs first, then the sleeved singles. A sleeved booster is the same factory-sealed pack with an extra printed sleeve over it, which keeps the wrapper crisp if you are stacking rather than ripping.

Loose, sleeved or blistered

Same ten cards, three wrappers

All three hold the identical booster pack with identical odds. What changes is what rides along with it, and how much of the price is pack versus extras.

›
Loose pack. The pack exactly as it comes out of the box, nothing added and nothing to unwrap twice. It is the widest range we carry, with loose singles for all fourteen sets (Black Bolt was sold out on 27 September 2026).
›
Sleeved booster. The same pack inside a printed retail sleeve. On Pitch Black the sleeved single is A$9 against A$12 loose, so the protective outer is effectively thrown in.
›
Blister. One or three packs bundled with an exclusive foil promo card and, on the checklane version, a collectible coin. You are buying the promo as much as the packs, and those promos never appear in a booster.

What a pack really costs

Pitch Black ME05 · seven formats

Pitch Black comes in all seven of these formats, so it is the cleanest way to see where singles sit. Grailborne prices read on 27 September 2026, divided by the pack count each product actually contains.

Grailborne prices read 29 September 2026, divided by the pack count in each product’s official contents. Pack counts: checklane 1, 3-pack blister 3, bundle 6, Elite Trainer Box 9, booster box 36. All seven were in stock when read.

The number worth remembering
A sealed Pitch Black booster box works out to A$10.81 a pack. The sleeved single is A$9. That is A$1.81 a pack cheaper than the box - you beat booster-box economics without committing A$389 in one go. The Elite Trainer Box prices a little differently because it carries sleeves, a storage box, dividers and energy cards on top of the packs, which is exactly what you want if you are setting up to play as well as collect.

Prismatic Evolutions single pack - A$28, the set built around the Eeveelutions.

What each pack is chasing

Raw secondary comps · PriceCharting

Sealed pack value is really a function of two things: how hard the top card is to pull, and how much people want the character on it. Pull difficulty sets the floor, character demand sets the ceiling, and the packs that hold both are the ones collectors keep chasing. Here is the headline card behind every pack in this guide.

Set Headline chase card Raw value (AUD)
Prismatic Evolutions Umbreon ex #161 (SIR) A$1,727
Ascended Heroes Mega Gengar ex #284 A$1,185
Paldean Fates Mew ex #232 A$1,155
Phantasmal Flames (ME02) Mega Charizard X ex #125 A$956
Black Bolt Zekrom ex #172 A$838
White Flare Reshiram ex #173 A$657
Destined Rivals Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex #231 A$592
Surging Sparks Pikachu ex #238 A$344

Indicative raw (ungraded) PriceCharting comps read 27 September 2026, converted at 1 USD = A$1.4224 (European Central Bank via Frankfurter, 25 September 2026, the latest published rate). Secondary values move with condition, grade and time. PSA 10 copies sit well above these figures.

Read the table as a demand map, and note what the top four have in common. Prismatic Evolutions, Ascended Heroes, Paldean Fates and Phantasmal Flames are the only sets here whose headline card clears A$900 raw, and every one of those cards is an Eeveelution, a Gengar, a Mew or a Charizard - four of the most popular character line-ups in the hobby. The card doing the work is never just rare, it is rare and beloved at the same time. Prismatic Evolutions came out in January 2025 and its Umbreon ex still leads this table twenty months later, so it is the pattern to look for when a new set is announced.

Further down the table sit the newer sets. Pitch Black landed on 17 July 2026 and its Mega Darkrai ex comps around A$262 raw, with the entry price at A$12 a pack.

The Grailborne Take

86/100
Grailborne Index
The best value entry point in the shop, and a genuinely good way to hold a set
Investment-hold rating - weighs set scarcity, character demand, comparables & retail-vs-secondary spread.
›
Box economics, single-pack commitment. A Pitch Black sleeved single is A$9 against A$10.81 a pack inside the sealed box - A$1.81 a pack cheaper. You beat booster-box pricing without tying up A$389 in one product.
›
Fourteen sets, one guide. The range runs from Astral Radiance (Sword & Shield, 2022) through the Scarlet & Violet specials to Pitch Black, the newest Mega Evolution set in this guide. You can buy exactly the set you believe in rather than whatever happens to be newest.
›
Every pack is a live chase slot. A single pack has the same rare slot odds as any pack in a A$389 box. Umbreon ex #161 at roughly A$1,727 raw came out of an ordinary pack, and so did every other card in the table above.
›
Smart-buy note. If you are holding rather than ripping, the sleeved singles are the ones to stack - the printed outer sleeve keeps the foil wrapper sharp. Store them flat, out of sunlight, at stable room temperature.

Practically: buy the set you actually like, not the newest one. Sets stop being printed eventually, so it is worth picking up the ones you like while you can. Buy a handful, keep half sealed, and rip the rest.

Grailborne’s mission: as always, Grailborne strives to get modern Pokémon sets into the hands of collectors, investors and rippers.

Frequently asked questions

Release · chase · hold thesis
Do single packs have worse pull rates than a booster box?+
No. A booster box is thirty-six of the same packs in a printed carton, and every pack carries the same rare-or-better slot regardless of how it was sold. What a box gives you is volume, which smooths out variance across thirty-six pulls. What a single gives you is the identical odds on one pull at a fraction of the outlay. Neither is seeded differently.
Which pack in this guide has the strongest hold thesis?+
Prismatic Evolutions at A$28. It is a special set built around the Eeveelutions, and its Umbreon ex #161 Special Illustration Rare comps around A$1,727 raw, the highest headline card in the table above. Astral Radiance is the other quiet one - a 2022 Sword & Shield set at A$19.90 a pack.
Is a sleeved booster worth the difference over a loose pack?+
On Pitch Black the sleeved single is actually the cheaper of the two at A$9 against A$12, so the question answers itself there. Across the rest of the range the two sit within a couple of dollars. If you are ripping, take whichever is cheaper on the day. If you are stacking packs to hold, the printed sleeve does real work protecting the foil wrapper underneath, which is the part that determines how a sealed pack presents years later.
Should I open them or keep them sealed?+
Split the difference, and decide per set rather than per pack. Recent sets like Pitch Black and Perfect Order are the ones to open for the fun of the hunt - the chase cards are fresh. Older sets are the ones some collectors prefer to keep sealed for the long run. Buying a few of each set and sealing half is how most collectors get both.
What exactly is in a modern Pokémon booster pack?+
Since the Scarlet & Violet era an international English pack holds four commons, three uncommons, one reverse holo, one rare or better, and one basic Energy card, plus a Pokémon TCG Live code card. That rare-or-better slot is where every ultra rare, illustration rare and special illustration rare lives, so it is the slot that carries the entire chase.
Do you ship single packs, and what does postage cost?+
Yes - single packs ship exactly like anything else on the site, tracked, dispatched within one to two business days. Free shipping applies over A$350, and because packs stack so efficiently a mixed order of singles is one of the easier ways to reach it.
