Black Bolt and White Flare (SV10.5) are two sibling sets released together on 18 July 2025 — the first time the Pokémon TCG has split a special set into two halves for the English market. Between them they give every one of the 156 Unova Pokémon an Illustration Rare, and both are sealed and available now at Grailborne.

What’s in each Elite Trainer Box
Both ETBs are built the same way — nine packs and a set-exclusive full-art promo — but the promo differs by side:
- 9 booster packs — your shots at the set’s ex, Illustration Rare and monochrome BWR line-up.
- One full-art promo — Thundurus in the Black Bolt ETB, Tornadus in the White Flare ETB. Neither is pulled from packs.
- 65 sleeves + 45 energy — plus damage dice, a condition die, a coin, a player’s guide, four dividers and a TCG Live code card.
The chase cards
The signature mechanic is the BWR — the “Black White Rare,” a monochrome full-art treatment reserved for the marquee legendaries. These sit at the top of the pull hierarchy and carry the values to match:

What the market is telling us
Our read on any set is pull difficulty × character popularity — and Black Bolt / White Flare score high on both. The BWR cards are the rarest tier in the set, and they land on the most universally recognised subjects in Gen 5: the box legendaries Zekrom and Reshiram, plus the mascot Victini. Hardest-to-pull meeting most-wanted is exactly why a single Zekrom ex BWR trades for roughly nine times the US$49.99 retail of a sealed ETB. The character Special Illustration Rares — N, Hilda — sit a tier lower on rarity but ride Unova nostalgia, which is why they hold three-figure and high-two-figure prices rather than fading.

Our read: a landmark set with a genuine top-end and broad Unova demand — we keep the Index at 78 because it already trades well above retail, so the easy money is gone and near-term upside depends on the hype premium holding. If you want the format and the BWR chase, buy the side you love and hold sealed; if you want to get in at cost, that window has closed.
